The American General Media Foundation is seeking an experienced, determined and persuasive Underwriting Specialist to join our public media sales team for 95.5 KHFM Classical Radio in New Mexico. This is an exceptional opportunity for a mission-minded and innovative person to join our team and generate sponsorship revenue for a station that is highly regarded in the marketplace. You will secure Corporate Sponsorships for KHFM on-air and digital assets and make an impact while working with a team of smart, creative, collaborative colleagues.

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Underwriting Specialist in public media is similar to that of a salesperson in commercial broadcasting or local print media. In this consultative sales role, you will be making sales calls to decision makers at local businesses, meeting with them to understand their marketing needs and developing proposals that offer marketing solutions to help them grow their businesses. Securing corporate sponsorships and cultivating in-person and virtual relationships built on trust and credibility. Developing radio sponsorship messages and branding, along with digital media. Focusing on developing new business while managing and growing an account list. This is a full life cycle sales position in that you will be prospecting, conducting needs assessments, creating and presenting proposals, securing the sale, write copy and servicing the account.

Preferred Selection Criteria:

  • 3 Plus years of media sales or development experience
  • Degree in marketing, business, communications or related field
  • Excellent time and resource management skills
  • Capacity to gather and utilize market data to sell to multiple platforms
  • Proficient in MS Excel and PowerPoint a must
  • Marketron and Neilson experience/knowledge a plus
  • Persuasive verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Ability to open doors and close new business by using a disciplined sales process
  • Collaborative personality and reverence for communication with management and peers for insight and feedback
  • Positive attitude and thoughtful demeanor

KHFM covers the state via broadcast and live streaming.  Each week, more than 60,000 people listen to 95.5 KHFM or KHFM.org; 400,000 access our network of websites, social media and mobile apps. The mission of KHFM Community Partners, a 501 c 3, under The American General Media Foundation, is to provide access, without cost, to classical music to New Mexican audiences and beyond on the air and online; to promote and provide and support live music, the performing and visual arts, and arts continuing education in New Mexico; and to promote New Mexico arts and artists worldwide. KHFM produces no-fee, curated, classical programming and original content in Central and Northern New Mexico.  Programming features national and international classical musicians and compositions while bringing local content to listeners through interviews and broadcasts of local performing arts organizations.

KHFM is the only dedicated, 24/7 Classical Genre station in New Mexico.  Since our transition to a non-commercial station in 2017, we have had an amazing outpouring of financial support from listeners, many of whom write to support the station financially. We need to build this same type of support from our corporate community.

Condition of Employment: Must provide reliable transportation. Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid New Mexico drivers license and proof of insurance. Must be able to work a flexible work schedule to include evenings and weekends.
